About GardenWalk Cleveland

Mission

To nurture community, beautify neighborhoods and encourage civic pride throughout the city of Cleveland.

History

In June 2010 an article appeared in the Cleveland Plain Dealer describing GardenWalk Buffalo and the 353 gardens that would be open to visitors on the last weekend in July.  Jan Kious and Bobbi Reichtell, the founders of GardenWalk Cleveland, independently went to Buffalo for the first time to see the miracle of so many gardens in bloom in a city with a reputation for being cold and drab. GardenWalk Buffalo completely changed their impressions of that city. Jan realized that a GardenWalk in Cleveland  may change perceptions of Cleveland too and invited Bobbi to join her in planning GardenWalk Cleveland for 2011.  A group of citizens from throughout Cleveland and some inner ring suburbs started meeting, initially in homes, and then at the University Circle United Methodist Church, to plan Cleveland’s first GardenWalk in 2011.
